Trip to Sacred Heart University

Although this trip doesn't technically qualify as a campground visit, it did occur while I was at one.  I am establishing the same type of  'unwritten' rule to my travel map:

New York, Maine, Rhode Island
Only if I spend the night(s) in a particular state and campsite will a sticker be placed on the map.

Anyway, I had the pleasure of being called upon by daughter, Marybeth, to run up to Fairfield, CT to Sacred Heart University and pick up Rebeca.

From my campsite in Croton to the University, it was only 52 miles and a little over an hour.  However the volume of traffic (even at 3:30 pm) was such that I was in bumper to bumper traffic crawling along at 20-30 mph on the Merritt Parkway for a good portion of the trip.  It could've been construction (although all construction vehicles sat idle for miles and miles and I saw no one working) or even the Friday afternoon get-out-of-town traffic.  Most likely, those in the know would say, 'this is how it is all the time."  I went into my NYPD (New York Patient Driver) mode and crawled along admiring the beautiful colors along the parkway.  The Merritt is a beautiful, well kept highway.

NY motorcycle jerk riding the dotted line
(can't tell you how much that irks me)

My destination at last

The University, it turns out, is just a mile or
so off the Merritt.  Very easy to get to.

I was to meet my beautiful granddaughter at 4:30 pm after her meeting.  As a D-1 athlete, (she is a member of the D-1 Equestrian Team as well as Club Soccer) she was given the "rules" and taboos regarding every aspect of her life; from diet (no vitamins or supplements) and training to giving or receiving advice/instruction in anything pertaining to sports--including Fantasy Football.  I listened with open mouth, smiled, and said to myself, "good for them and good for her."  For Beca, there will be no problems living up to and adhering to all the rules simply because that's the kind of gal she is.

Fortunately, having started early, I had about an hour to kill (as planned) so I parked near her dorm and took a stroll across the street to the campus.

Beca lives on the very top 10th floor of.....

....Roncalli Hall a.k.a. Pope John XXIII

Some photos from around just one little portion of the beautiful, nicely landscaped, clean campus:

I returned to her dorm and waited for her as our meeting time drew near.

A very pleasant place to sit and relax.

After my long awaited greeting, (I haven't seen her in weeks) we entered the dorm and I had to prove I wasn't someone she picked up off the street to the security person at the front desk.  Signing in with ID, blood and urine samples, birth certificate and proof of sanity, we proceeded up to her suite.  Constructed in 1999, the ground floor amenities (TV area, workout room in full use) as well as the rest of the building, were impressive and clean.

I'm betting there's a reason why those chairs look
uncomfortable.

Is this the Beca we all know?

Whew, yes it is.

Outstanding.  I ate only one....honest

We arrived back in Hopewell in time to meet mommy at 6:00 pm and had dinner at Daddy-O's.  'Twas the end of a perfect day.  Even have a new addition for my Caddy.  URI & SHU.  How lucky am I.  Can't wait to see Sara, my third beauty, on Sunday.
