.......2014-2015-winter-forecast and guessing that the middle to end of January and all of February could be the best time not to be here in the northeast, I began to flesh out my plans. I researched my airport trips from Jan/Feb of 2014 and found I made 32 trips back and forth to airports and Manhattan. Although I experienced no major problems, I'd say I "dodged the bullet." My backup fellas should be delighted with the opportunities in my absence (but probably not the weather conditions that may go with them). With my GPS set in RV mode and Google Maps, I determined how far and how long I wanted to drive each day and found the nearest RV sites that were in close proximity to friends and relatives along the way. For me, the planning, calculating and phone calling for reservations were half the excitement in organizing my first adventure to visit the south and not staying the month of April as I have done for the past seven years. It was a breath of fresh air dealing with representatives of the RV sites listed below. They were all pleasant, cheerful, and accommodating with a smile in their voice. But then, that's the way of the south. With two sites still to be confirmed (*), this is what is now written in stone as of October 23rd:
January 19 through the 21st – Cherrystone campground – Cape Charles Virginia.
January 21 through the 23rd – Lanier's campground – Holly Ridge North Carolina
January 23 through the 26th – Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort – Hilton Head Island South Carolina
January 26 through the 29th – Nova Campground – Port Orange Florida
January 29 through February 4th – Elite Resorts at Citrus Valley – Clermont Florida
*February 4 through the 9th – Del-Raton RV – Delray Beach Florida
February 9 through the 12th – Key Largo Kampground – Key Largo Florida
I then begin my trip back home (most likely in time for bad weather).
*February 12 through the 15th Carefree RV at Daytona Beach – Port Orange Florida
February 15 through the 18th – visit Roger and Wendy Arnold – Bluffton South Carolina
February 18 through the 20th – Lakewood Camping Resort – Myrtle Beach South Carolina
February 20 through the 22nd – Holiday Trav-L- Park – Virginia Beach Virginia
February 22 return RV to storage in Cross River or Croton RV Park
This is a total of 3,174 miles driven in 35 days with 10 RV sites visited in 4 states (only MD, PA and GA were missed this trip) and I'll get to see 17 friends and relatives for an estimated average cost of $42.00/day. I like that!
You might want to consider extending your trip into March. The weather is so unpredicible in February. In any event, your itinerary sounds terrific. We are looking forward to meeting up with you at some point in Florida and reading your blog entries along your journey.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm counting on Mother Nature determining the length of my stay...(while collaborating with and in corroboration with Fishkill). Meeting up with you will take place at the Elite Resorts at Citrus Valley, FL, January 29th through February 3rd. That's now written in stone; I'll be across the street on site #192.
