The trip from Winnie's storage area to Searsport, ME, and Searsport Shores Ocean Camping is 387 miles and took 8 hours; a couple more than Google Maps said it would but it was an uneventful drive, a beautiful day, and traffic was light to moderate. The RV GPS (both Garmin & And McNally's on board built in GPS avoided the large cities and did a good job of keeping me moving. When they were in conflict, I favored the Garmin Dezel 570 LMT because if showed an earlier arrival time. The positive side of that long trek is that a) I'll be driving through new and beautiful New England territory albeit along major Interstates; and b) I'll see how driving that long compares to my 8-10 hour trips with Caddy to my destinations down south; something I've been doing for the past 7 years. I believe the younger I get, the further I'll be able to travel in one day but I think 8 hours will be sufficient. One rest room stop and one to refuel was I needed. Averaging 65+ (Maine's maximum speed is 70), I felt I made good time. Interesting that as fast as I thought I was going, I could not keep up with the big boys. P.S. Also happy to report that I averaged 16.7 mpg. Of course, after paying $4.07/gal diesel, the next service area....the very next gas station...sold it for $3.87. I believe I invented a new type of road rage. Did you hear me?
My site #10 is about where the "M" is in PremiuM RV Sites label above. |
Cousin John and Barbara arrived at 6:00 after my hasty and incomplete setup to enjoy a bottle of KJ Chardonnay and the incredible views from my site #10.
After catching up with what's been going on in our lives, we left for the Nautilus Seafood Restaurant to continue: http://www. nautilusseafoodandgrill.com/ Lobster Mac & Cheese, Crab Cakes and Fish & Chips were delicious and service/waiter excellent.
I assume Neptune keeps an eye on things |
I purposely avoided the handicap ramp |
The 5 minute ride back to the dark and quiet campsite provided a welcome sight.
