Friday's entry:

Saturday into Monday:  Stay outta Dodge!!
Well, if there was ever a message telling me to stay away from New York, I guess this would be it.  With 18 days left, this was something I knew I would have to deal with. My anticipated trip home, February 22-23rd (Sunday/Monday) is one of those times where the occurrence of a weekend storm looms large.  I've already made plans to delay a day (or more) mainly because I felt my drive from Virginia Beach to Cross River (429 miles, 7.5 hours) was too long.   Having driven 1,575 miles so far, I know 4 hours to be the point to call it a day.  So, to break it up, I've made reservations at Timberlane Campground in Clarksboro, NJ on Monday night (4+ hours from VA) and leave for home Tuesday morning (2+ hours from NJ).  If I get enough advanced warning of any pending storms at that time, I'll try to extend my stay in the south.  This would mean staying longer in Port Orange, FL, Bluffton, SC, Myrtle Beach, NC, Virginia Beach, VA, or Clarksboro, NJ.  The thought of driving north on I-95/Jersey Turnpike in an RV is not appealing.
After a couple passing sprinkles, the sun finally came out about 12:30 pm. and I'm on my way out to continue reading that 1,200 page Brandon Sanderson novel,  "Way of Kings."  I'm on page 763.

Tonight, my cousin (in-law) Norma will be picking me up for dinner at Stonewood Grill in Wellington to the north of me. To me, it was a long ride and we drove through some heavy downpours.  I discovered this restaurant chain during my years of month-long stays in Daytona Beach Shores.  The one in Port Orange, right on Dunlawton Blvd was my go-to place for the perfect 6 oz filet mignon, garlic mashed potatoes, and where I discovered a great Malbec from Argentina, "Alamos"  Unfortunately, they don't serve it anymore.  Instead, we had a 2012 Chateau Ste Michelle Merlot.  And delicious it was.  Good wine enhanced by good food, and good company.

  1. That steak looked good, but Norma looks better...God bless her. I'm sure you had a fabulous time. Watch those weather forecasts. You definitely don't want to be driving Winnie in the snow. And, if you're thinking of extending, return to Elite! Hahaha. Enjoy your journey.

    Safe travels.

  2. The map is right on. As I lookout of my soon to be replaced leaky, poorly fitting windows; the snow is coming down pretty good. It's a lovely snow/ sleet combo. M.

  3. VMG: Stay safe, call in sick and don't go to school. Bet you miss those days.

VC: thank you, I'll pass that comment on to Norma; she'll love it. Not bad for 70, eh? Tonight she's taking me to a place called Umberto's for dinner. Then, on Sunday, she, Kori, and I are doing sushi somewhere.
