Days 21-25 - Key Largo, FL - Monday

Key Largo Kampground 2/9/2015 - 2/13/2015
101551 Overseas Highway
Key Largo, FL 33037

Monday:

The 2 hour+ drive from Del Ray Beach, FL was okay and better than I thought.  I avoided Miami.  GPS's (what's the plural of GPS--I use two) agreed on the route and I traveled I-95 to Florida's Turnpike and then through Homestead, FL all along Rte 1.  Another assumption I made that was proven wrong was the nasty weather in store for me.....all the way down.  It is only 117 miles from DelRay Beach but the weather was good.  Temps in the high 70's and when I arrived, I was greeted with a soft drizzle; just enough to cool me off while hooking up water, electrical, and sewer.  That workout plus the drizzle resulted in a change of clothing.  Site #14 is well shaded as you can see.  This is the first of the campsites that I called to revise my length of stay.  I was to stay here just 3 nights before heading north.  Now I'm leaving on the 4th day, Friday, the 13th.  Hope that doesn't aggrevate the snow gods.  I completed this task yesterday resulting in a week of extra camping. :-)

Gary from Michigan
Tomorrow I will greet the sunrise at 6:59 a.m. and take a walk around the campground and share the pix that will give you a feeling for the campground.   I've already met, Gary from Michigan.  He admired Winnie so I gave him a tour and he just raved about it.  Result?  He makes it to Winnie's Wall of Fame.  I'll update that blog.  But before closing tonight, I wanted to share photos that my COLD weather friends sent me.  Some of my WARM weather friends never saw an icicle, so here are photos and messages from the north.  Today, schools are closed, temps are in the 20's, and it's the third (weekend) round of snow that has blasted the northeast.  Captions will show the locations, Gary will show the contrast:

Hi Cuz, just got back from Ft Myers.
Sucks here in Boston - 3+ feet of snow,
20 degrees and gray... My tan has already faded.
Sell your condo, move J&J down to FLA,
and forget about returning!

  1. I tried to post after your last entry about extending your trip. I'm so happy you did. Key Largo looks beautiful. I'm hoping it's even warmer than central FL.

Enjoy the beauty, the serenity and this amazing journey of yours.

  2. Charlie you definitely made the right decision about staying down there longer, nothing but grey skies and way to much snow up here. Enjoy those palm trees.
