Days 35 - 38 Bluffton, SC - Last Day

Visiting Roger & Wendy - 2/21/2015 - 2/24/2015

My last day visiting R&W was a busy one.  My two docents, who don't know the meaning of "sit and relax," took me "for a ride." 40 miles and 50 minutes later, I was experiencing the rugged, untouched pine forests and low lying, dense palms in Hunting Island State Park.  And what a wonderful experience that was.  Located on adjacent property is the Hunting Island Campground which we visited.  Result?  I've booked 6 nights next January.  That's the first available date for an ocean front campsite.  See photos below.

To find  a more busy, involved, eager to please and compatible couple would be a very difficult task.  They have assimilated all Sun City, Beaufort, and the surrounding area has to offer and I thank them for sharing it proudly with me.  Rather than bore you with over 120 pix, I chose my favorites.

My first lunch and the Okatie Creek Golf Club's
clubhouse with my docents Wendy & Roger

Hunting Island's eroding shoreline looking north
on a cold, drizzly, dismal day.

The dense woodland where "GI Jane" was filmed.

The lighthouse at Hunting Island is the only
publicly accessible historic lighthouse in South
Carolina.  It dates from the 1870's and stands 170'.

The very long fishing pier beyond the Nature Center
reaching out over 1,000'.

Typical Hunting Island State campground.  Very shaded with
just water and electric hookups.  I've booked site #48 for 6 nights.

The view from Winnie from the site I chose.

Back from Hunting Island State Park and a tour
of historic Beaufort, SC.

A typical street view with densely draping moss
adorning tree branches as well as power lines.

Brave Wendy, with the southern blood, was
agreeable to dine al fresco and brave the
cold, dismal day.

I thought this was a nice touch that would add
 points for the restaurant.

Yes, she's freezing.

The northern Yankee found it refreshing.

Recent renovations and major shore front improvements
has made this location a most beautiful addition for
the seasonal tourists to enjoy.

On our way back to Bluffton, I couldn't resist
this shot while at a traffic light.  That about
covers it all, doesn't it?

That night, the ultimate treat, pizza!! But this place
is know for their BIG slices......

....many choices for toppings. Me? I'm a plain cheese
kinda guy.  Sorry.  Surprisingly, the recommended
"thick crust" was crisp and not doughy at all.

Thank you, once again, Roger & Wendy for everything.  See you next January with a visit to Hunting Island and hope to see you at Croton's RV park this summer.
