Days 39-45 - Myrtle Beach, SC - Friday

Myrtle Beach, SC 29575

Friday was Sun Day

So there it was...at long last.  Hidden though it was, it was the brightest day I've had since last Wednesday in Bluffton.  What a treat it was and how invigorating.  The temperatures were still in the high 30's and due to reach 50°.  Unfortunately, with the good news there was bad.  LOL.

Sanderling........
Went to turn on the hot water and there wasn't any.  Oh, there was hot water, it just didn't flow.  Cold water okay.  Turned the by-pass valve and water continued to flow but once switched back so water would pass through the heater, nothing but a loud "clunk".

Called Winnebago techs, "Check valve problem."  After 3 or 4 phone calls to see how soon I could get it repaired/replaced, I spoke with Russ at Camping World at 2295 Dick Pond Road, Myrtle Beach, SC. 7 miles and 15 minutes from the campground.  Told him my situation; that I went through Good Sam RV Tech Service and the other Camping World nearby; that I'm leaving Tuesday and can't go another 12 days without hot water.  He scheduled me for 2:00 pm this afternoon.  I unhooked, packed up and arrived at CW hoping for the best, expecting the worst: "Sorry, not covered under warranty"; "Sorry, we don't have the part in stock"; "Sorry, it's warranty service.  You have to have it repaired where you purchased it"; "Sorry, you do need a part; can you come back next week?  We should have it by then."
....the bird that plays tag with the waves.
The outcome?  After two hours, they found the problem (a tiny plastic plunger in the check valve broke), they had the part, replaced it, tested it, and it didn't cost a penny.  Whew!  How nice was that?  Kudos to Russ and the folks at Camping World (Myrtle Beach) for making a potentially big problem, painless.  Thank you also, Sharon, for making me believe "what goes around, comes around."

Warbler (?)

While waiting, I had to browse the huge store.  I've never seen such a huge inventory of all things RV.  At Good Sam prices, I walked out with over $50.00 worth of supplies that I needed (maybe) to replenish supplies in Winnie.  Add to that, a stop at a Super Wal-Mart store where I replenished foods that I needed (maybe).  Okay, so the large Hershey Cookies n' Cream chocolate bars were a treat.  All that time on the phone going through warranty red tape with two or three affiliated organizations with Good Sam/Camping World and finally getting it done today necessitated such a reward.

And so, my last weekend in SC sneaks past me.  With 12 days left, a closer look at the upcoming weather for points north will be my main attraction.  As I write this Friday night, what do I see? 3" Sunday into Monday.   More decisions coming up.
Good night.

  2. Glad you had an easy fix with your heater. As Rosanne Rosannadanna used to say, "It's always something!" I'm sure you don't know who she was, so Google her. Interesting.

Be carfeful and stay safe. Happy trails.
