Tuesday's entry:
The 4 ½ hour drive from Clermont, FL, was good. I was able to travel on Florida's Turnpike. I have their Sun Pass which works like our E-ZPass. Stopped at a Chase bank, Publix...all nearby...before getting settled in by 3:00 pm. It's cozy. Sites are small and close together but clean and well maintained. There's a Pier 1 Imports directly across the street and I'm looking forward to visiting Tim Finnegan's Irish Pub, a few doors to the north.
As a welcome to arriving in this part of Florida, behold the "gift" that awaited me when I returned from the bank......
...a "Cloudless Sulphur" butterfly lying on the pavement in front of Winnie. |
It wouldn't last very long in this location so I tried to coax it onto my finger. |
...It obliged. Next, don't fly away as I take you to the nearest tree...... |
...where it slowly and willingly took hold with a sigh of relief from me..... |
...and thoughts about how attractive it was for some bird to come and enjoy lunch. Anyway, I did my part. |
After getting settled and within 3 hours of my being here, I met not one, not two, but three guys named Steve. That belongs in my blog (which I have yet to compose) called "What Are The Chances?" This is number 3. Number 1, you may have read about in my blog entry, "Update From Elizaville" of October 27th while I was at Brook n Wood campground. I'll tell you about recently occurring number 2. The couple next to me in a huge fifth wheel at Elite RV Resort in Clermont and I got to chatting and it turned out he worked at Sing Sing in Ossining. He, along with 4 of his friends, rented an apartment in Peekskill. "Oh yeah?" says I, "Where?" When pressed for its name he couldn't remember because this was back in 1985-88. When I mentioned the River House, it clicked for him and believe it or not, he lived where I do now...he on the third floor, me on the sixth. They're now living in Buffalo. "What Are The Chances?"
My first order of business, once settled in, was to do two loads of laundry. The facility was clean and the coin-operated washers and dryers cost a mere $1.00/load. They're the same style I have back home before we went to the laundry card.
While waiting for the dryer to finish its cycle, I took a "tour" of the comparatively small campground/RV Park.
From in front of my site eastward toward the main road. Pier 1 Imports. No, I don't shop. |
Turning 180° and facing west. |
My daughter, Marybeth's, giant rig. |
She keeps it in Canada and usually doesn't talk about it. I must remind her to clean her front bumper and plate. |
Again, facing east at the back end of the park. There are short side streets in the middle but the number of sites is only 60. |
Great old clock that doesn't work. Photo was taken about 6:00 pm |
